About this blog carnival: “The world I want for my children” is an effort to support The Joyful Heart Foundation, which was founded by Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay to help victims of sexual assault mend their minds, bodies and spirits and reclaim their lives. Today, the foundation is at the forefront of an effort to end a disheartening backlog of tens of thousands of rape kits in labs across the country, a backlog that contributes to a rapist’s 80 percent chance of getting away with his crime. The backlog and its detrimental effects will be the topic of an SVU episode on September 29th.

BTW, Texas is the 2nd most solvent state in the U.S. That's because we have cut spending and taxes on the wealthy and the businesses.

ReplyDeleteI was a volunteer for the state I lived in for victims assistance, your poem says it quite well - more then heart disheartening --- it seems like it never ends insidious in our society.

ReplyDeleteI read this and cannot help but cry. I can relate all too well to this post. As a survivor of sexual assault and not ever having reported I am thankful for people like you that have the courage to write about their experience.
ReplyDeleteI am a mother to a daughter who was sexually assaulted in her first year of college and being so proud of her for having the courage to report it. And then going through the investigation and trial with her was heart breaking. It took so long because it took them a very long time to process her rape kit.
My daughter and I watched this episode of SVU and we both cried.
I am sorry that you had to endure this pain but I am thankful that you share your story so that these kinds of things are not silenced. Many hugs sent to you. XX Lori
