Happy Mabon, everyone. This is the first harvest celebration (in the Northern Hemisphere), the Feast of Ingathering. Give thanks for the fruits of the earth today. Light and dark are equal on this day but from now on the darkness begins to grow. The earth moves into its cycle of sleep. Use the coming months for meditation, thought, reorganization and planning.
For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, it is the start of Spring. The light begins to grow as does the Earth. It’s time to use the energy you’ve stored all Winter.
This is a special Autumnal Equinox. It was officially at 11.09 PM on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in my neck of the woods (New Jersey, USA.)

Looking in the night sky you will see the Harvest Moon (the first full moon of Fall) and Jupiter in opposition.

This two day period will be the only time in my lifetime that I will be able to see the full moon and Jupiter’s all-night appearance at the same time on the Autumnal equinox.
Nice astronomizing. Well done.

ReplyDeleteFor me, Fall is the time to dig in and write. The kids are finally in school and i can actually put two sentences together without being interrupted. I'm shooting for two new manuscripts this year.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed! Nothing but awesomeness!

I did know about the harvest moon, but not Jupiter. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hope this isn't catching! We sure don't need another holiday.
ReplyDeleteAfter raising the minimum wage, and the recession and all, this one would surely do us in economically.
