Flash 55 – Appeasing the Gods

Trees whirl and twirl and wheel, dervishes flinging their leaves like multi-colored scarves teasing the worshippers with downcast eyes kneeling at their roots. 

The priests lay the drugged warrior down by the edge of the bog pond, testing his leather bonds. The oldest druid, white beard laced with mistletoe, slits the throat of his sacrifice.   

I want to thank everyone for their comments on my stress post. I ran out of time for replying to comments but I always read your comments and enjoy them so much.

One Stop - Quiet, It’s a Secret

He said lay back and you will enjoy this and her five year old body did even though she knew it was wrong because they were hiding and it was a secret and daddy didn’t come to rescue her and mommy said she knew she was doing something she shouldn’t but mommy didn’t make it stop and the years passed and there was no forgetting with lost memories only the incessant hum of filth and shame and constant fear and danger watching the shadows attack at the back while trust flew away from her the moment he took her hand and said come with me.

About this blog carnival: “The world I want for my children” is an effort to support The Joyful Heart Foundation, which was founded by Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay to help victims of sexual assault mend their minds, bodies and spirits and reclaim their lives.  Today, the foundation is at the forefront of an effort to end a disheartening backlog of tens of thousands of rape kits in labs across the country, a backlog that contributes to a rapist’s 80 percent chance of getting away with his crime.  The backlog and its detrimental effects will be the topic of an SVU episode on September 29^th.

mosquitoes touch down

stagnant water bends inward

breaking the surface

The tight skin holding in his life burst. The tense membrane over his existence ripped like the placenta at his birth. 

He tried to follow the rules but never to the required perfection. The drugs and alcohol never numbed him enough to get him through the days. The inadequacies of his life haunted him awake and asleep. He had lived like the shadows on the screen of an old television set. 

Remembering the tranquility of a previous death, he went wanting nothing more than peace.

He knows when to whip out his hose to wet a parched and thirsty ground. 

He knows which fields are fat with nutrients.

 He knows when to till in the composted bodies.

Fun Fall Facts

Happy Mabon, everyone. This is the first harvest celebration (in the Northern Hemisphere), the Feast of Ingathering. Give thanks for the fruits of the earth today. Light and dark are equal on this day but from now on the darkness begins to grow. The earth moves into its cycle of sleep. Use the coming months for meditation, thought, reorganization and planning.

For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, it is the start of Spring. The light begins to grow as does the Earth. It’s time to use the energy you’ve stored all Winter.

This is a special Autumnal Equinox. It was officially at 11.09 PM on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in my neck of the woods (New Jersey, USA.)

Looking in the night sky you will see the Harvest Moon (the first full moon of Fall) and Jupiter in opposition.

This two day period will be the only time in my lifetime that I will be able to see the full moon and Jupiter’s all-night appearance at the same time on the Autumnal equinox.
